MUMBAI:
Fuel sales across Bharat grew 6.4% year-on-year in May 2026, with Petrol (MS) sales rising by 3.4% and Diesel (HSD) sales increasing by 8%, driven by strong demand from transportation, agriculture, freight movement, and rural activity during the peak summer season. Through the month, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) met this rising nationwide demand without a single reported supply disruption.
Behind these numbers was one of the country’s largest continuous fuel distribution exercises. During May 2026, HPCL moved 12,84,715 KL of Petrol (MS) and 21,48,560 KL of Diesel (HSD) through its retail network across Bharat. To sustain uninterrupted supplies, the Company dispatched 2,35,441 fuel tankers carrying MS, HSD, and SKO-PDS products averaging over 7,500 tanker movements every day, or roughly one tanker every 11 seconds, operating continuously across highways, cities, rural markets, and remote supply routes.
The operational challenge was amplified by peak summer conditions. Temperatures across large parts of the country crossed 40°C, while agricultural demand surged across several states during the Kharif sowing period. Diesel consumption rose sharply as tractors, irrigation pumps, harvest-linked logistics, and freight corridors operated at full intensity. Simultaneously, increased transportation and commercial movement further accelerated fuel demand across retail networks.
On the LPG front, HPCL delivered 393 lakh LPG cylinders to households across Bharat during May 2026, reinforcing the scale and resilience of its distribution network. The Company also supplied 7,00,867 units of 5 kg cylinders and 35,795 units of 2 kg cylinders, supporting access to clean cooking fuel for smaller households and communities where standard domestic cylinder formats may not always be practical.
HPCL’s digital infrastructure continued to play a critical role in ensuring delivery efficiency at scale. Nearly 99.30% of LPG bookings were processed online, enabling faster allocation, real-time tracking, and seamless consumer service across the country.
