KOCHI:
Ministry of Shipping has given an award to Cochin Port Trust for Best Performance for achieving the highest growth in operating surplus for year 2015-16. 
Cochin Port Trust’s Operating Surplus increased to Rs.70.9 crores in 2015-16 from Rs. 19.55 crores during 2014-15 which is 262 % increase. G. Senthilvel, Chairman, Cochin Port Trust received the award from Nitin J. Gadkari, Union Minister of Shipping during a brief function held after the review meeting of all Major Ports taken by the Minister at Goa. Dr. C. Unnikrishnan Nair, Traffic Manager, CoPT was also present.
Such a steep increase in the operating surplus was possible due to cost reduction measures and extensive marketing to increase the throughput taken by the Cochin Port Trust.
