A high-energy match marked the start of the CFC Corporate Challenge Sevens Football Tournament in the city, as the event by Calicut Football Club began at the Government Cyberpark.
Twelve corporate teams are participating in the first edition of the 12-team championship at the Cyber Sports Arena, where CAFIT beat HiLITE 6-1 at the inaugural encounter.
The competing teams are Calicut Press Club, Aster MIMS Calicut, Kenza TMT, myG, Highlight, CAFIT, Malabar Group, Xpresso Global, Peekay Steel, Xylem Learning, Paragon, and GTech.
The group matches will conclude this Sunday. The quarterfinals will be held on May 16, followed by the semi-finals the next day and the final on May 18.
The inauguration ceremony featured a march-past, followed professional football coach Bino George administering the oath to the players of the teams. Calicut FC CEO Korath Mathew conveyed greetings.
Vivek Nair hailed Calicut Football Club‘s initiative to bring together professionals from diverse industries, saying the tournament not only promotes their physical well-being but also reinforces the collaborative spirit that defines the business community.
Cultural programmes preceded the match this evening.
As a prelude to the tournament, CFC owner and IBS Software Executive Chairman V.K. Mathews had on Thursday unveiled the Corporate Challenge Trophy. Present at the function in the city were CFC Secretary Binu Jose Eapan and Kerala Football Association President Navas Meeran besides Korath Mathew.
