KOCHI:
In observance of World Organ Donation Day, Aster Medcity organized a thought-provoking series of events aimed at raising awareness about the critical importance of organ donation. The day’s activities included a unique event titled ‘She Ride,’ where over 50 women employees rode their two-wheelers from the ‘Garden of Life’ at Aster Medcity to Queens Walkway, spreading the message of organ donation. The rally was flagged off by Capt. Thangam Rajarathinam, Chief Nursing Officer at Aster India.
The ‘Garden of Life’ is a significant memorial located on the hospital premises, dedicated to acknowledging and honoring deceased organ donors who have selflessly saved many lives through their donations. The memorial serves as a poignant reminder of the impact that one organ donor can have, with the potential to save up to eight lives.
There was a unique exhibition titled ‘Life Before Ashes.’ This hard-hitting display featured human organ installations made from a blend of real human ashes and mud, symbolizing the stark reality of missed opportunities. The exhibition’s underlying message was clear and impactful: the ashes that now remain could have been another human’s heart or kidney, extending life and hope, had the organs been donated.
World Organ Donation Day is observed aiming to increase awareness and encourage people to pledge their organs. Despite the life-saving potential of organ donation, the need far outweighs the availability. Every day, 17 people die waiting for an organ transplant.
