Rajeev began by paying homage to late Shafeeq Amaravathi, the Deshabhimani reporter and singer who had left a deep impression on his audience with his performance for the Arts and Medicine programme in December last year.
The actor/director crooned eleven songs which included Malayalam evergreen numbers ‘KeralamKeralam’(Minimol,1977),‘SandhyaMayangumNeram’(Mayiladum Kunnu,1972), ‘ManushyanMathangaleSrishtichu’( Achanum Bappayum,1972), ‘Ammave’ (Tamil), ‘Kabhi al vidanaakehana’ (Hindi) amongst others.
It was a lively 126th edition of theprogramme, which is organised on Wednesdays by the KBF in association with Mehboob Memorial Orchestra and Lakeshore Hospital and Research Centre Limited with the goal of providing healing through art. It draws a large audience of patients, staff and visitors every week.
“Art creates wonders, I was blessed once to witness a person who had difficulty speaking listen to some great music that encouraged him to overcome the disability and render a whole song,” said Rajeev.
‘To be part of a programme with such deep humanitarian values is an honour for an artist,” he added.
Rajeev’s upcoming film, ‘Makan-The Kid’ which marks his debut as a director, revolves around a sixteen-year-old boy with Down’s Syndrome. He said the message that he wants to convey is that given the right encouragement and support, children with disabilities can excel in their chosen fields.
