  • Volunteers from Vedanta Ltd Continue to Donate Relief Materials

By NE Reporter on September 10, 2018

    THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The employees of Vedanta have been volunteering to help at flood relief camps.Continuing their efforts of flood relief and rehabilitation, the employees of Vedanta donated one day’s salary towards the Chief Ministers Fund.
The amount donated by the employees was matched by the company. C Murugeswaran, Vice President-Sterlite Copper (A Unit of Vedanta Ltd), met with the E.P. Jayarajan – Minister for Industries, Commerce, Sports and Youth Affairs recently and handed over a cheque towards the relief fund. He expressed solidarity with the people affected by the calamity and extended the company’s support to rehabilitate those who were displaced.
Vedanta employees from multiple teams have been assisting in the process of rehabilitation of the affected. They have been contributing through various means towards efforts at returning normalcy to the state. They have till date distributed over ten tons of relief materials to the state of Kerala.
After understanding the needs of those affected by the floods, Vedanta volunteers accumulated basic necessities like groceries, clothing, sanitary products for men and women, basic medicines and drinking water from in and around Thoothukudi. Employees packaged the products into easily distributable relief kits. All the material was then loaded from the Vedanta’s township, Tamara – I, and was delivered to the Adoor collection centre at Pathanamthitta – one of the worst affected areas in Kerala. The volunteers helped unload and arrange the products at the collection centre for distribution.
Speaking on the gesture and assuring Vedanta’s continual support to the people of Kerala, P Ramnath, CEO Sterlite Copper said, “Vedanta is committed to helping its fellow countrymen in this time of need. As a company, we are committed to making a positive change to the society around us. The welfare of the people has always been a key factor in our operations. We are proud to see our employees reflect the same ethos, especially in response to such crisis. We will all continue to support the people of Kerala through this difficult time.”
As a responsible corporate, Vedanta and its subsidiaries have been working closely with communities across their locations on multiple development initiatives, including providing scholarships for underprivileged students, free health check-ups and treatments, providing access to clean drinking water, supporting women self-help groups, skill training camps for the youth and public infrastructure development in and around its factories.
