Viswa Kala Bharathi Award for Dancer Ananda Shankar Jayant

HYDERABAD:
Celebrated Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi dancer, guru, choreographer, scholar, writer and speaker, Dr Ananda Shankar Jayant, has been selected to receive the prestigious Viswa Kala Bharathi award for the year 2016 from renowned Chennai- based arts organisation Bharat Kalachar – established in 1987 as the Cultural Wing of PSBB Group of schools, to emphasize cultural and ethical values and cultural awareness in the youth
The title of “Viswa Kala Bharathi” is given to select artistes every year in recognition of their devoted service for promoting Fine Arts across the world.
Ananda joins eminent artists such as Dr Sonal Mansingh, Kamalhaasan, Chitra Visweswaran, Sudha Raghunathan, Dr Padma Subrahmanyam, Anita Ratnam, Bomb
ay Jayashree and other artists, who have received this prestigious award in previous years.
For the year 2016, Dr Ananda Shankar Jayant, and renowned Carnatic musician Sanjay Subrahmanyan, will receive the Viswa Kala Bharathi for dance and music respectively, at a special function in December 2016 in Chennai.
Ananda, who is also the recipient of the Padma Shri and Sangeet Natak Akademi award, as well as the state awards of Kalaimamani from Tamil Nadu and Kalaratna from Andhra Pradesh, is also a sought after motivational speaker.
