THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Kerala’s drug and addiction-free mission ‘Vimukthi’, launched by the State Excise Department, is organising a State-level anti-drug workshop on January 29.
Labour and Excise Minister T P Ramakrishnan will inaugurate the workshop, which is being conducted for trainers as part of the ongoing 90-day anti-drug awareness drive on the theme “Tomorrow’s Kerala, Addiction-Free Kerala,” at the Government Guest House here at 10 am.
Dr Prasanth. CV, RMO, Palliative Medicine, Regional Cancer Centre, will lead a class on “Addiction and Health Problems” at the workshop. Madhujan. L.R, Director, Karunasai, will address a session on “Addiction and Mind” while Harikrishna Pillai, Manager, Vimukthi, will talk on “Addiction and Legalities”.
Dr KV Kunhikrishnan, President, State Library Council, will preside over the inaugural function. V.K. Madhu, President, District Panchayat; P Appukuttan, Secretary, State Library Council; and PK Rajamohan, Secretary, District Library Council, will attend.
The trainers at the workshop will get an orientation for presenting various topics in the anti-drug clubs of the 6,700 libraries across the State and at Panchayat-level drug-free evening meetings.
Around 100 trainers and resource persons from the district will participate in the workshop. Vimukthi seeks to mobilise public support for the anti-drug and anti-alcoholism drive by forging a partnership with anti-drug clubs in schools and colleges, Student Police Cadets State Library Council, voluntary outfits, and student, youth and women organisations.
