THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Expressing happiness for being selected for the nation’s coveted science award Vigyan Shri. Dr. Anandharamakrishnan C, Director of CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST), said he took the prestigious honour as a motivation to work with greater dedication for the advancement of science in the country.
“Let me accept this coveted honour with all humility. This comes as a moment that inspires me to work with greater dedication so that me and my team in NIIST could make more contributions for the further advancement science in India, and the benefit of the society at large” Dr. Anandharamakrishnan , chosen for the Vigyan Shri award for distinguished contribution in Agricultural Science category, said.
“Modern science in India has a great and inspiring tradition. Let me recall the outstanding contributions made by my illustrious predecessors as well at this moment. I am also deeply indebted to my colleagues here in CSIR-NIIST and earlier in CSIR-CFTRI and MoFPI-NIFTEM-T with whom I had been associated,” he said.
A distinguished scientist and academician, Dr. Anandharamakrishnan has vast expertise in the fields of food and agro-processing.
Before taking over as Director of CSIR-NIIST, Dr Anandharamakrishnan earlier served as Director of National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management, Thanjavur (NIFTEM_T).
He also served as Chairman & Convener of the Capacity building and Research for the Prime Minister’s Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI).
He is recipient of several prestigious honours like NAAS-Recognition Award in Agricultural Engineering and Technology and ICAR-Rafi Ahmed Kidwai award for Outstanding Research in Agricultural Science and an elected fellow of various national and international scientific societies.
Dr Anandharamakrishnan obtained his B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering from A.C. Tech, Anna University, Chennai and did his M.Tech. at Anna University, Chennai.
He did his doctoral research in Chemical Engineering with Specialization in Food Engineering at Loughborough University of United Kingdom. During his Ph.D, he was awarded the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship Programme of Government of United Kingdom.
Dr Anandharamakrishnan’s areas of research include design of engineered nano and micro scale delivery systems for the controlled and targeted release of food bioactive compounds, 3D food printing, engineered human dynamic gastrointestinal system and glycemic index studies, spray drying and spray-freeze-drying of food products and computational modeling of food processing operations.
His research work is focused on scientific eminence aiming at societal benefits with industrial relevance and support towards the uplift of farmers and entrepreneurs.
Under his leadership, CSIR-NIIST has diversified its ambit of research into cutting-edge areas and patented technologies developed by the institute for commercial production, including the vegan leather technology.
