Thiruvananthapuram: Vigilance and Anti-Corruption bureau has registered a case against senior IPS officer and former transport Commissioner Tomin J Thachankary for favouring automobile companies Benz and Eicher.
It is alleged that Tomin granted exempted these companies from the new Bharat IV vehicle registration norms for three months. Thus the auto makers were allowed to register their Bharat III model vehicles even after the Bharat IV came into effect.
The auto makers would have had to incur a huge expense per vehicle for the transition from Bharat III norms to Bharat IV. It is suspected that there was an underhand deal involving big money behind this unusual and illegal exemption.
Tomin had recently been removed from the Transport Commissioner’s post for instructing his departmental staff across the state to celebrate his birthday by distributing sweets. The order was in the wake of the Transport Minister Transport insisting on his removal.
