THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Suman Tiwari, a PhD Scholar from TIFR (Tata Institute of Fundamental Research), Mumbai, emerged as the winner in the finals of the 12th Euraxess Science Slam India, a science-talk competition hosted by the German cultural centre Goethe-Zentrum on Thursday.
The winner gets a roundtrip ticket to Europe and an opportunity to network with research peers in one of Europe’s top institutes.
Giggin T, Asst. Professor, Kerala Agricultural University, Shabana K M, PhD Scholar, IIT Palakkad, and Sreshtha Ganguly, PhD Scholar, IIT Kharagpur, were the other finalists who competed for the title.
The contestants in the final round captured the audiences’ attention with precise, accessible and original introduction to their research topic.
Euraxess is a European Union initiative that provides information and supports services for researchers, entrepreneurs, universities, and businesses.
Shereen Shihab, Faculty, Goethe-Zentrum, Trivandrum, and Mr Pierrick Fillon-Ashida, Delegation of the European Union to India, delivered the opening remarks at the event in the presence of Dr. Samrat S Kumar, Country Representative, Euraxess India. This was followed by presentations on study and research opportunities in Europe by various delegates from European countries including Germany, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland and Switzerland.
The event provided an opportunity for the audience to know about the study and research options in Europe, EU research career development programmes, and science communication.
At the networking dinner arranged as part of the event, the participants interacted with members of the Euraxess India team, the Goethe-Zentrum team, German Consulate, the EU Delegation to India, representatives of EU Member states, representatives from the academic and non-academic sector, and members of the Science Slam Jury as well as other event partners.
The Euraxess Science Slam India 2024 was organised in partnership with CNRS India, Delegation of the European Union to India, Embassy of the Czech Republic, Embassy of The Federal Republic of Germany, Embassy of Italy, New Delhi, Embassy of Slovenia in New Delhi, Embassy of Sweden, New Delhi, Goethe-Zentrum Trivandrum, The Netherlands Innovation Network.
