THRISSUR:
Imparting further momentum to sporting activities in the district, Minister for Industries and Sports and Youth Affairs, E P Jayarajan, will inaugurate the work of the Municipal Stadium at Chalakudy at 5 pm on December 23.
The State Government has sanctioned Rs 9.57 crore through its infrastructure financing agency KIIFB for developing the stadium on 3.27 acres of land, made available by the Chalakudy Municipality. D Devassy, MLA, will preside over the function. Innocent, MP, District Panchayat President Mary Thomas, Kerala Sports Council President T P Dasan and Chalakudy Municipal Council Chairperson Jayanthi Praveenkumar will be chief guests at the ceremony.
Dr A Jayathilak, Principal Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs, will welcome the guests at the function. Sanjayan Kumar, Director of Sports and Youth Affairs, will present the report on the project.
The stadium comes under the projects proposed by the state Government in its budget for promoting sporting activities in municipal areas. It will have all the state-of-the art facilities including six badminton courts, one basket ball court, gallery, office room, change room, dormitory and uninterrupted power and water supply.
