AIADMK general secretary V K Sasikala on Wednesday left Chennai for Bengaluru after taking a vow in front of her friend and former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s burial site on Marina Beach.
After the Supreme Court rejected her request to give her more time to surrender in a Bengaluru court today, Sasikala, who is a convict in a disproportionate assets case
She was accompanied by her sister-in-law J Elavarasi, who is also a convict in the case. A few AIADMK leaders and her relatives followed her in other vehicles.
Sasikala went straight to the Jayalalithaa’s memorial on Marina Beach. First, she paid floral tributes to Jayalalithaa. Then she went around the burial site once, muttered something, bent down and slammed the tomb thrice, dusted her hands, prayed and prostrated thrice.
Sasikala left the memorial after greeting AIADMK cadres. She spent 10 minutes at the memorial.
Her convoy then went to late chief minister MG Ramachandran’s residence in Ramapuram on the outskirts of the city where she sat in front of MGR’s portrait for a few minutes and prayed. Her supporters shouted slogans praising her as she got into her vehicle and left.
On Tuesday, she said no force can separate her from AIADMK. “No matter where I will be, I will always think about party,” she had said asserting her intent to not let go of the party.
After finishing formalities, including a medical check-up, she would be lodged in the women’s enclosure in the jail.
