NEW DELHI:
The Class IX student of Ryan International School in Gurgaon has confessed to killing his junior, seven-year-old Pradyuman Thakur, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) told a court on Thursday.
The CBI, while submitting its remand copy to a Gurgaon court on Thursday, said that the teen confessed his crime in front of his father. The juvenile who has been apprehended, has confessed to his involvement in committing the murder of Pradyuman Thakur, said CBI in remand copy submitted to Court.
The CBI secured the custody of the 16-year-old accused on Wednesday, a day after apprehending him for the murder of Pradyuman. The investigating agency said that the teen killed his junior because he wanted the school to declare a holiday in order to defer a scheduled parent-teacher meeting and an examination.
The CBI had apprehended the juvenile after questioning 125 students of Class 10, 11 and 12 of Ryan school for several weeks. During questioning it was revealed that the teen was the first person to inform the gardener about Pradyuman’s body in the toilet.
The CBI said the Class XI boy committed the murder to get the scheduled exams and parent-teacher meeting postponed. The student will be produced before a juvenile court later in the day.
The agency also cleared the school bus conductor who was earlier arrested as a suspect. The accused student was picked up from his home in Sohna on Tuesday night.
Seven-year-old Pradyuman Thakur was found dead inside the washroom of Gurugram’s Ryan International School on the morning of September 8, 2017. Pradyuman’s body was discovered by fellow school students at around 8 am with his throat slit and a knife near his body. Postmortem later revealed that a 18×2-cm neck-to-ear cut was what killed the child.
Gurgaon police had initially arrested the school bus conductor in the case alleging that he had tried to sodomise the victim and later killed him when he tried to raise an alarm. The case was later transferred to the CBI by the state government.
