THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH) has planned an online Interactive Disability Awareness Seminar (NIDAS) on “Rehabilitation of children with Spinal Dysraphism” for parents and care-givers on July 21.
The seminar, being organized in collaboration with the Directorate of Social Justice, will be led by Dr. Nitha. J, Assistant Professor, SCTIMST. Spinal Dysraphism is the term used for mentioning group of deformities caused when the neural tube is not being enclosed. As the Central Nervous System is being affected the symptoms include hydrocephalus, incontinence and orthopedic deformities etc., their implications, management and rehabilitation shall be discussed in the webinar.
The proceedings of the seminar, to be hosted by NISH on its campus from 10.30 am onwards, will be simultaneously webcast at all the District Child Protection Units (DCPU) offices for audiences present there via internet. The two-and-a-half hour programme in Malayalam aims at creating awareness on rights of the differently-abled as well as the concessions, grants and services available to them, to a larger audience of parents and caregivers.
