NEW DELHI:
India witnesses a nationwide strike, known as ‘ Bharat Bandh ,’ in response to the Supreme Court’s controversial ruling on SC/ST reservations . The Reservation Bachao Sangharsh Samiti spearheaded the protest , drawing significant participation across multiple states.
In Rajasthan ‘s Bikaner district, a lockdown-like atmosphere prevails as SC/ST community groups enforce the shutdown. Patna Police resorted to baton charges against demonstrators, while in Jharkhand’s Ranchi , major roads were blocked by protest ors burning tyres.
Noida saw heavy police deployment, with Joint Commissioner Shiv Hari Meena overseeing foot marches to maintain law and order. Meanwhile, Union Minister Jayant Singh Chaudhary stated the government has clarified its stance, leaving no room for further contention. The Supreme Court’s landmark ruling, which permits sub-classification within SCs and STs, sparked the nationwide unrest.
