Union Minister of State of Railways Rajen Gohain, inaugurated the new Station building at Changanasseri Railway station today the 9thof June, 2018 in the presence of K.J.Alphons, Union Minister of State for Tourism, Kodikunnil Suresh, M.P, C.F.Thomas, M.L.A, C.P.Anil Kumar, Chairman, Changanasseri Municipality, P.K.Mishra, Additional General Manager, Southern Railway, Shirish Kumar Sinha, Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram, Principal Head of Departments staff of Southern Railway and members of recognised Unions and other invitees and public.
During his speech, the Minister Rajen Gohain, said that under the able,energetic and vibrant leadership of our Prime Minister the country was progressing. And that the Minister of Railways Piyush Goyalji, is spearheading the transformation of Indian Railways in the recent times and he has personally interacted with top Railway Officials to improve the speed and punctuality of trains with “Operation Raftar”.
He was happy to state here that Indian Railways have taken a major milestone in the area of resource mobilization, i.e low cost Institutional funding to the tune of 1.5 lakh crores each over for the next five years for the projects has been organized to remove the persistent underinvestment in the Railways Indian. As far as Kerala is concerned, the Railway Budget allotment for 2018-19 is 923 crores, an increase of 148% when compared to the allocations of 2009-2014.
He said that Railways continuously strives to meet all the demands of its customers, in spite of the fact that we have limited resources. He said that Indian Railways looks forward for various types of partnerships with State Governments in all areas of passenger services. He said Indian Railways is the growth engine of economy of our Nation and backbone of our Country’s infrastructure.
P.K.Mishra, Additional General Manager, Southern Railway, Shirish Kumar Sinha, Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram, Principal Head of Departments, staff of Southern Railway and members of recognised Unions participated in the function.
Changanasseri Railway Station is a Non Suburban Group 4 class (Old class B) station. The station is located between Thiruvalla and Chingavanam stations in the Thiruvananthapuram-Kottayam-Ernakulam route. The station has an average passenger footfall of 4524 passengers per day and average daily earnings of Rs 2.95 lakh.
Traffic wise 28 express trains and 14 passenger trains are operated through Changanasseri station every day. As part of Chengannur – Chingavanam Doubling project, which is nearing completion, the station building at Changanasseri has been newly constructed at a cost of Rs.7.2 crore. The new station building is equipped with a host of facilities such as Current & Advance Booking Counters, Parcel Booking facility, I/II Class and Ladies Waiting halls, Differently-abled friendly Gents & Ladies toilets, ramps and a VIP Lounge .
