KOLLAM:
As part of its products diversification and scaling up of the marketing network, Thiruvananthapuram Regional Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union (TRCMPU) of Milma today launched the 500 gm PET Bottle Curd along with a couple of other products.
Prasanna Earnest, Mayor, Kollam Municipal Corporation, introduced the bouquet of new products to the market, which include ‘Milma Homogenized Milk 525 ml’, and ‘Milma Curd 525 gm’ at a function held at the Press Club here.
In her address on the occasion, Earnest hailed the role of Milma in reaching out to millions of households with high quality milk and dairy products, thereby offering the consumers a healthy option.
“Milma enjoys tremendous credibility in the market on account of the quality of its products. This gives a clear choice to consumers to avoid spurious and poor quality milk and dairy products and helps them lead a healthy life”, Earnest said.
Setting up outlets to sell Milma’s value-added products is a good option for youngsters who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic-induced economic downturn, and Kollam Corporation is ready to support them if Milma comes out with viable projects, she added.
N Bhasurangan, Convener, Administrative Committee, TRCMPU, who presided over the function, said there has been an increase of 50,000 litres in milk production per day in the region for the last six months. But it is necessary to add another one lakh litres to meet the demand of the region alone. At the same time, the state as a whole has surplus milk production.
“When the Thiruvananthapuram region becomes self-reliant in milk production it will create job opportunities in the diary sector as excess output can be converted into value-added products. Our aim is to build Milma as one of the biggest brands in the country,” Bhasurangan said.
Presenting a report on the products, D S Konda, MD, TRCMPU, said TRCMPU is targeting a turnover of Rs 1,200 crore this year compared to Rs 1022 crore last year. The new PET Bottle Curd 500 gm is made from skimmed milk, which can be consumed even by people with lifestyle diseases and cardiac disorders.
Kollam Madhu, Deputy Mayor, Kollam Municipal Corporation, inaugurated the first sale of the products. KR Mohanan Pillai, Member, Administrative Committee, TRCMPU, welcomed the gathering.
B Shailaja, Ward Councillor, Thevally was also present. Dr R.K. Samuel, Manager, Kollam Dairy, proposed a vote of thanks.
