KOCHI:
Niigata University of Japan and Cochin University of Science and Technology will co-operate in the studies related to Marine Science.
The Memorandum of understanding between the two Universities in this regard was signed by Dr. Sunil K. Narayanankutty representing Cusat and Niigata University President Dr. Sugata Takahashi in the presence of
Cusat Vice Chancellor Dr. J. Letha and Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr. P.G Sankaran. According to the MoU, selected students from one University will be able to study at the other upto one year without fees.
A group of students from Cusat led by Dr. Mohamed Hatha will visit Niigata University in September 2018 as the first step. The treaty envisages mutual visits by students and staff, joint research, symposia, classes, exchange of academic data and co-operation in other areas between the two Universities. Prof. Mitsugu Mayeno, Prof. Yuji Tanabe, both Deans of Science and Vice Dean Dr. M. Satish Kumar of Niigata University and IRAA Director Dr. K.K. Saju and Prof. Mohamed Hatha of CUSAT participated in the discussions. “Marine Bio- diversity, Marine planktons , Taxonomy, Ecology, Physiology, Toxicology, etc will be the areas of collaborative studies between the two Universities”, informed Dr. Mohamed Hatha, Marine Biology professor in Cusat.
Later, addressing the students and faculty of Marine Science, Prof. Hironori Ando presented a detailed account of the studies, research and employment opportunities in the field of Marine Science in Japan.
