THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Kerala Startup Mission’s (KSUM) Fab Academy has invited applications for Diploma courses on principles and applications of digital fabrication.
Graduates and Postgraduates can apply for the course, scheduled to commence in January 2018.
The six-month diploma is designed to teach hands-on skills in Fab Labs, which began as an outreach project from MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms, and has since then grown into a global network of more than 500 labs.
Fab Academy’s syllabus is based on the MIT’s popular rapid-prototyping course ‘How to Make (almost) Anything’, taught by Prof. Neil Gershenfeld. For its 2018 programme, Fab Academy will host 10 each students in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram labs. The classes will begin from January third week onwards.
The course comprises 16 modules covering different aspects of digital fabrication. The modules include electronics design and production, computer controlled cutting, 3D scanning and printing and machine design. Fablab Kerala had successfully hosted the Fab Academy programme in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram. Both the labs witnessed a participation of 18 candidates in 2016 out of which 16 graduated. Likewise, of the 14 participants this year, 12 candidates graduated successfully.
Interested candidates can apply at http://fabacademy.org/application-form/. Last date is November 15.
Fab Academy has contributed more than 28 Fab experts from the State through this course over the last two years. They have been working abroad and in various States in the digital fabrication field.
The training at Fab Academy is instrumental in grooming youngsters of Kerala to become entrepreneurs and experts in new technology.
