THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Kerala-based Genrobotic Innovations, which developed world’s first robotic scavenger, has deployed its advanced robotic gait trainer G-Gaiter that helps patients recover rapidly from paraplegic disabilities at KIMSHEALTH here.
G-Gaiter’s induction at KIMSHEALTH is part of introducing innovative technologies in neuro-rehabilitation sector. The state-of-the-art gizmo will enable medical professionals to creatively design therapy based on each patient’s needs by saving time and effort.
The custom-made G-Gaiter assists patients with stroke-triggered paraplegic conditions, traumatic spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, accidents and Parkinson’s disease by increasing their mobility as well as consistency, besides the quality of gait pattern.
Such is the efficiency that the AI-powered natural gait pattern of the robot aids the patient’s easy completion of 900 to 1,000 steps in 20 to 45 minutes.
At the installation ceremony at KIMSHEALTH, its Chairman and Managing Director M I Sahadulla said it is a great thing that the machine is designed and manufactured in Kerala, making it a successful ‘Make in Kerala” story.
Dr Nitha, Consultant, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) Department, KIMSHEALTH, said continuous and effective efforts are required to develop neuro plasticity to a person with permanent disability. With the availability of G-Gaiter at the hospital, the quality of care of people with physical disability will go up. The machine helps to initiate the walking process early and attain a better walking pattern during rehabilitation.
Many hospitals in the country have started using G-Gaiter in such a short period of time. The use of the state-of-the art technology has helped G-Gaiter to bring in a great change in the area of physical medicine and rehabilitation. Leading government and private hospitals have been approaching us to install the machine, said Vimal Govind, Director, Genrobotic Innovations and Mr Afsal Muttickal, Regional Director, Genrobotic Medical and Mobility.
Currently, G-Gaiter has been installed in hospitals like Aster Mother, Areekode; Amrita, Kochi; General Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram; SP Well Fort, Thiruvananthapuram; and Thanal Brain and Spine Medcity, Kannur. G-Gaiter has completed more than 15 lakh robotic steps and 2,400 therapy sessions.
It is seen as a significant step in the direction of utilising robotic technology in the rehabilitation of patients with limited mobility. As per the figures of WHO, globally, more than 2.5 billion people require the assistance of such technology.
With its AI-powered natural human gait pattern and top-notch rehabilitation, the robot’s execution of the motor relearning principle facilitates better treatment and quicker rehabilitation. Having earned the recognition of the Central Drugs and Standards Control Organisation, G-Gaiter enables medical professionals to creatively design therapy based on each patient’s needs by saving time and effort.
G-Gaiter improves the ability of paralytic patients to control the movements of their body below the spine by facilitating specific exercises provided by professional physiotherapists. It also helps in developing neuroplasticity, enabling the ability of neural networks in the brain to change through growth and reorganization.
With its virtual-reality experience that provides the patients with a surreal visual experience, G-Gaiter also creates a sense of participation and enthusiasm while training through various virtual environments. It further helps in boosting the patient’s morale for a motivated therapy session.
