The proposal made by Dr.Senoy Thomas, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics of Cochin University of Science and Technology has been selected for an Indo-German project which will be funded jointly by Department of Science and Technology(DST), Government of India, and German Academic Exchange Service (DADD – DeutscherAkademischerAustauschdienst).
The selection is based on scientific merit, complementarities of the project objectives, scientific strengths of the project co-ordinators, national priorities of both the countries, etc. The project titled ‘Magnetic spin vortices on curved geometries’ has been sanctioned to Dr.Senoy Thomas on the Indian side and German counterpart Dr. Manfred Albrecht Institute of Physics, University of Augsburg, Germany, will focus on research related to the development of materials/surfaces with super storage capability.
The project will enable Dr.Senoy Thomas to visit Germany and stay for one month each year during its two year term. One Research Scholar will also be able to visit and stay for 50 days in each year. This will enable them to familiarise with the use of high end research facilities of international standards. A similar team from Germany will visit CUSAT as part of the project. “The achievement will pave the way to continued collaborative works and academic and research relations with German institutions in future”, according to Dr.Senoy Thomas. Vice Chancellor Dr. K.N. Madhusoodanan congratulated and presented a letter of appreciation to Dr.Senoy Thomas. Dr. P.G. Sankaran, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Dr.Meera V., Registrar, were present on the occasion.
