HYDERABAD/NEW DELHI:
GMR Institute of Technology (GMRIT) at Rajam in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh has been awarded as the Second Most Clean Campus in India for the year 2017 by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The institute is sponsored by GMR Varalakshmi Foundation (GMRVF), the corporate social responsibility arm of GMR Group. Laxmanmurthy, COO, GMRVF received the award on behalf of GMR Institute of Technology at a function in Pune.
Over 1000 technical institutions from India participated in the AICTE’s initiative to promote Swachh Bharat Mission in academic organisations. Based on the data submitted by participating colleges, 190 colleges were shortlisted for physical inspection. The aim was to recognise institutions that are active in keeping their campus clean all the time. GMRIT won the award for undertaking various Clean Campus initiatives such as Solid Waste Management; Water Conservation, Energy Conservation and Electronic Waste Management. In order to commemorate this achievement, AICTE also planted a tree for each awardee in their headquarters in New Delhi.
On receiving this prestigious award, Dr. Prasad, Principal, GMR Institute of Technology, Rajam said, “GMR Group is committed to focus on holistic development of students and communities across the country. The prestigious award of second cleanest campus in India from AICTE has reinforced GMR Group’s vision to provide ‘Clean and Green Campus’ for students, professors and office staff. GMRVF will continue to provide vocational training to under-served youth in the country and nurture the sense of responsibility and entrepreneurship.”
GMR Institute of Technology was established n 1997 by GMR Group in Rajam village of Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh. Close to 8000 students have passed out from the college till date.
At present, GMRIT runs eight under graduate as well as eight post-graduate programs. The institute has over 3,500 students. GMRIT continues to earn good ranking among engineering colleges in the country. It is among the top 65 engineering colleges in the country and top five private engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh.
The schools run by GMR Varalakshmi Foundation have shown exceptional performance both in academics as well as extra-curricular activities. GMRVF partnered with around 350 Government Schools towards improving the quality of education, reaching out to over 38,000 students across India.
GMRVF provides an opportunity for under-privileged meritorious children to access quality education in reputed schools through ‘Gifted Children Scheme’ and supported 175 children through this.
