PANJIM:
Forca Goa Foundation organized a special three-day team building workshop for all its Grassroots coaches in South Goa recently. The Forca Goa Foundation firmly believes in building coaches as role models not only for the young players they train, but for the community as a whole. The foundation encourages and strongly advocates personal development programs and coach education so that the coaches can be good leaders in society.
The workshop was organized for the coaches to review the season gone by and to prepare themselves for the new season ahead, by sharing their experiences and knowledge gained through the year. The three-day program had activities on team building, workshops on coach education and sessions on self-introspection and meditation.
Said Jill Ferguson, MD, Forca Goa Foundation “The purpose behind the coach’s workshop was to help empower the coaches and build capacity from within. By developing the coaches, the Foundation can directly impact thousands of kids from the community.”
Said Allain D’Costa, Coach with Forca Goa Foundation, “The things I learned at the workshop will help me bring a change in myself and others especially the young children I coach. Introspection and evaluation is a necessity to improve and learn.”
Fr. Milchester, from the St. Francis Friary, Canacona held talks on being good representatives to young children and how to use football as a means to teach children values so that they develop into socially responsible adults. Some of the coaches who had an opportunities to be a part of the Premier Skills Coaching program and the Scouting Training, used the opportunity to share what they had learnt with the entire group so all the coaches could benefit.
The Foundation also prioritizes child safety and a special session was organized that helped coaches understand the different types of abuse a child can go through and the steps coaches need to take to identify and report that abuse.
Another highlight of the workshop was on training special needs children. After launching its #FootballForAll campaign last year in a bid to make the sport all inclusive, the foundation introduced girls to their programmes. This year the Foundation wants to add to the campaign by taking it one step further and getting children with different abilities involved as well. The coaches who underwent this training at the Premier Skills program conducted the workshop so that the same could be implemented across all Forca Goa Foundation centers.
The Forca Goa Foundation continues to work in the areas of football, sustainability and empowerment via workshops, training sessions and community services.
