PANAJI:
FC Goa’s Developmental Squad ran out 4-1 winners against Dempo Sports Club in a friendly on Friday at Chowgule Sports Center in Margao.
The teams went into half time goalless after a keenly fought first half where both team traded chances, with neither side able to convert. In the second half, Dempo were quick out of the blocks and scored within 10 minutes of restart to put FC Goa on the back foot.
However, FC Goa fought back and equalized through Mohammed Yasir, who broke away on the right side after a clever one with Amey Ranawade. The Gaurs then took the lead when Liston Colaco drilled in a shot from outside the box, having got past two players in the buildup.
With momentum firmly on their side, FC Goa then doubled their advantage with a goal from center back Issac Negredo. Negredo rose highest to head home Colaco’s delivery form the right wing. FC Goa then added the icing on the cake with a goal from Savior Gama. Gama had the simple task of tapping in after Yasir unselfishly squared the ball in a one-on-one situation with the keeper.
FC Goa’s Developmental Team is now all set to take part in the 1st edition of the AWES Tournament and are slated to play their first game against Salgaocar on the 2nd of Sept followed by a match on the 6th against Viva Chennai. Both matches will kick off at 4pm at the Duler Stadium in Mapusa.
Meanwhile, FC Goa’s U-15 also defeated Salgaocar U-15 by a scoreline of 3-1 in another exciting match at Chowgule Sports Center in Margao. Salgaocar settled faster and took the lead in the 20th minute to go leading into the break. Revitalized, FC Goa came back strong and scored three goals. Tristan Fernandes and Chadel Fernandes both scored from outside the box to make the comeback before Asfin Pinto made the game safe by adding a third.
