Kunjali Marakkar (K.M) School of Marine Engineering gave official farewell to its Director Dr. K A Simon, who completed his term on 9 th October. Dr Simon was the first Director of the School and has played a crucial role in making the School India’s best Marine Engineering School.
He joined the school in the year 2007, after 17 years service and leaving the post of Deputy Chief Surveyor in the Directorate General (D.G) of Shipping under Central Ministry of Shipping. He was succeded in securing recognition of D.G Shipping for K.M School of Marine Engineering. From then, under the leadership of Dr Simon, the School grew into a level to be known as the best marine school in the country.
Now, K M School of Marine Engineering is an ISO 9001-2015 certified organisation and the only institution in the country conducting B. Tech Marine Engineering course directly under a state owned Government University. All the eleven batches of students passed out from the school have been placed on board ships by frontline shipping companies such as K-Line, Japan, American President Lines, Singapore, Mediterranean Shipping Company, Mumbai, Orient Express Ship Management, Mumbai, Synergy Shipping Management, L&T, Mitsui OSK and MSC, etc.
The unique feature of CUSAT’s Marine Engineering campus, the ship-in-campus having all the machinery in working condition as in a real ship with upgraded Full Mission Engine Room Simulator is the epitome of Dr Simon’s splendid vision towards the field of Marine Engineering education. New Director M.P John presided over the farewell meeting. Dr. Sunil K. Narayanankutty, Controller of Examinations, Prof. R. Venugopal, Jis George, Associate Professor, Minna Merlin Stanley, Section Officer, Renjith P.R, Assistant Section Officer, Roy V. Paul, Associate Professor, Dr. Sobha Cyrus, Joy P.P Mathew (wardens), course co-ordinator N.G Nair and Nisha Ravi spoke.
