On the second day of salary and pension payments, the situation in treasuries and banks in Kerala is just the same as that of the first day. In many places, a heavy rush was witnessed as many queued up to receive the
Pensioners queued up in front of treasuries in the morning itself. In some treasuries, as cash was not transferred many had to wait for long. Some of them were given tokens and asked to wait till their turn comes.
The RBI had transferred only Rs 580 crore for banks. At least Rs 300 crore is needed for treasuries alone. So, many may not get their pensions today also.
Out of the 4.35 lakh persons, only 59,000 obtain
ed pension yesterday. The remaining persons reached treasury today. Tokens issued to pensioners yesterday have also queued up. Only after giving cash for them, others will be given cash.
The RBI had transferred only Rs 111 crore to treasuries department against a demand of 167 crore. Cash distribution was stalled in 42 treasuries. It is expected that cash may reach these places today.
