  • SBI to Retrench Temporary Staff in SBT and Other Associate Banks

    Bank of India. It is learnt that more than 1,000 peons and sweepers of SBT will lose their jobs.

    A circular to this effect has been issued to all the branches of SBT.
    The circular asked the branch managers not to make any new appointments at the branch level.

    Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Govt has ditched Kerala in favour of Tamil Nadu, by granting in-principle clearance to a Rs 25,000-crore transshipment harbour project nrae Colachel fishing harbour.

    This move has dealt a severe blow to Kerala’s upcoming Vizhinjam harbour project as the centre govt-sposored port at Colachel is coming up just 35 km away from Vizhinjam, thereby dimming its business potential to almost a big zero. If Colachel port becomes functional, Kerala will have one more loss making ports in its kitty, after the Vallarpadam Terminal tragedy. The Adani Group is developing the Rs 7,525-crore project in Vizhinjam.

    Thiruvananthapuram: The First Budget of LDF Government, presented by Thomas Isaac, has proved more populist than the budget of the former government led by UDF. At the same time, the finance minister was firm on imposing more taxes and curtailing expenses.

    The LDF government has opened its heart to women. They get more in the budget. 10 per cent of the total budget is for the safety and upliftment of women. The women deserted by their husbands will be provided with a monthly pension.
