By NE Reporter on March 27, 2019

    KOCHI:
British Deputy High Commissioner Jeremy Pilmore-Bedford visited Maker Village, India’s Largest Electronics Hardware Incubator, on Wednesday and interacted with the startups besides having a look at the products developed by them.

The United Kingdom is willing to promote startups in India by facilitating the young entrepreneurs connect with UK Industries, said the diplomat, adding that Maker Village is definitely one of the world-class facility for innovators and entrepreneurs, said Jeremy.

“In terms of the companies that I have seen here, I am very much impressed by the energy and enthusiasm the teams have and also the creativity and the real problem solving ability of the companies to address real life problems”, he said.

Jeremy had a very special word for those companies who are addressing real life issues like the startup company which had developed an IOT enabled solution for safe transportation of blood bags, the company which innovated the automated solution for Neera tapping, energy optimization device for corporates and the company automating roti cooking.

It is important to develop the problem solving skills and apply it judiciously by leveraging emerging technologies to address the day-to-day challenges faced by the society-, said the envoy.

He said the High Commission would actively look at bringing more British companies here to understand the startup ecosystem and to discuss the chances of collaboration. He also assured to bring major British Venture Capitalists to the startup eco system. There is also avenue for Maker Village to collaborate with incubators and accelerators in UK and the high commission is willing to facilitate such engagements, which are mutually beneficial for all key stakeholders, he said.

“We need to seed, nurture and grow wider tech partnerships between tech startups of India and the British startup eco system. There are several exciting things happening in the areas of drones, MedTech etc., and there excellent chances of building in these areas”, he said.

The British delegation of technology companies which is scheduled to visit India in May could be a wonderful opportunity for the tech startups of Maker Village to explore new avenues of partnership, Jeremy added.
