  • Books Inspired by Previous Biennale Come to Light at KMB 2016

By NE Reporter on December 17, 2016

    KOCHI:
An impromptu reading of a ‘Vibgyor’ of books – seven works in each colour of the rainbow – that was conceived in the previous edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale (KMB) and published in the interim found an audience here today.book-2
Written by seven recent B.Ed graduates from SNM Training College Moothakunnam, the books cover a number of genres from poetry, to novellas to non-fiction. The reading at Aspinwall House was attended by KMB co-founders Bose Krishnamachari and Riyas Komu.
“We are from the 2015 graduating class in the Malayalam de
partment at SNM. The seven of us have released books that were inspired by the last Biennale. So we are happy that Bose Krishnamachari and Riyas Komu and the teachers who taught us to dream big are here with us. It is a privilege that we were able to all assemble here and participate in this reading together,” said Remya Vijayan, who published Uppil itta Ormagal, a collection of short stories.
The other works were: Chillakuthivarakkal by Greeshma George, Mili Oru Pennottam by Femi Joshi, Geethu K. Nidhi’s Geethuinte Uttamageethangal, Thazhthapettavende Suvishesham by Haridas M.U., Kathirunna Kavithakal by Sini M.P. and Geetha M.’s Aarachar Oru Padhanam.
“This vibgyor of books is also like an art form featuring seven discourses: poetry, drawings, mystic poetry, collection of short stories, film study, novel,” said Dr K.S. Krishnakumar, the Malayalam professor who taught the authors.
Congratulating the authors on their accomplishment, Krishnamachari said, “This Biennale is about giving people the opportunity to find their own path and move out of their own practice. A celebrated writer like Anand has transformed into an installation artist. I hope people are inspired by the works we have presented here as well.”
Noting that the authors had become part of a “people’s movement led by artists”, Komu said, “It’s very appropriate to introduce these books in this edition of the Biennale because it is all about multiplicities. We hope these conversations continue as we use the KMB as a platform to build the next generation.”
