With every edition, the Kochi Muziris Biennale has been successfully presenting new and emerging trends in contemporary art and fuelling artistic creativity by encourage artists to experiment, says K Suresh Kurup, MLA.
Kurup, who represents the Ettumanoor constituency, visited the Aspinwall House on Saturday and said that he had noticed, from his previous visits to the Biennale, that changing trends in the art world are evident
“Artists always have the freedom to experiment,” he said. “When their experimentations are showcased in internationally renowned exhibitions like the Biennale, the confidence of the artist is bound to rise. Biennale thus fuels the experimental urges of artists.”
“There has been more diversity of artworks and an increase in the number of participating artists in this edition,” observed Kurup. “A lot of foreigners are coming to Kochi to see Biennale which reflects the growing reputation of this event around the globe.”
He also stressed on the importance of Kochi as a host city. “There is no better place than Kochi to host the Biennale. You can’t imagine conducting the Biennale in any other tourism-oriented place in Kerala, as no other place can replicate the multi-faceted atmosphere of Kochi. The role of the city in enhancing the beauty of the Biennale cannot be overstated.”

ent, praised the Biennale for rising up to international standards. “I have visited many art exhibitions around the world, but the Kochi Biennale does leave me wonderstruck,” the IAS officer said. “I was persuaded by the Tourism Department Principal Secretary Dr V. Venu to visit this Biennale, and I’m sure it will act as a boost for Kerala Tourism.”
