  • Bhartanatyam Guru Ananda Shankar Jayant Launches Dance Practice app ‘Natyarambha’ in USA

    HYDERABAD:
    After launching ‘Natyaramba’ earlier this year, acclaimed dancer, scholar speaker, writer and guru Ananda Shankar Jayant is now poised to release the digital application overseas, beginning with the USA.
    Lauded by doyens in the dance world as an extraordinary online application for practicing Bharatanatyam basics, beyond the classroom, ‘Natyarambha’ is travelling to the US to be released at the prestigious Cleveland ThAnanda Shankar Jayant photoyagaraja Aradhana on April 14.
    The Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana, now in its 40thyear is the largest Indian classical music and dance festival outside of India – A two week long celebration of the classical arts of India, that sees more than 8000 attendees, from across USA and India. http://www.aradhana.org/schedule.html#fri1
    Ananda then travels to California, for the release of ‘Natyarambha’ on the West coast on April 29 , under the aegis of Jayendra Kalakendra
    “Natyarambha, produced and created by Shankarananda Kalakshetra, is our offering to the world of Bharatanatyam dancers, that provides digital access across devices, to enable easy practice of Bharatanatyam basics to students across the world. Natyarambha is our endeavour to enable a globally sought after, classical Indian dance form, Bharatanatyam, one of India’s greatest cultural gifts, ride the digital wave,” says Ananda.
    The app, available on www.natyarambha.com, contains guided lessons, mnemonics, music, and visuals, replicating the format of a Bharatanatyam class, and a range of practice options to enable practice at home easy.
    Launched in January this year by Padma Vibhushan Dr. Sonal Mansingh and Dr. BVR Mohan Reddy, the app has seen a huge number of sign ups, says Ananda.
    Shankarananda Kalakshetra, a renowned centre for excellence in Bharatanatyam, established in 1979, has forged a reputation for producing outstanding dancers, dedicated teachers, committed scholars and an ensemble that has performed across five continents to critical acclaim
    Shankarananda Kalakshetra’s, immersive engagement with the arts, spans creative choreography, traditional and contemporary dance productions, signature national festivals, academic dance conferences, in depth publications and arts education.
    Natyarambha is Shankarananda Kalakshetra’s latest arts education initiative.
    Dr. Ananda Shankar Jayant, is recognised and celebrated as one of India’s eminent and renowned classical dancers, choreographer and dance scholar, brings her four decades of experience, as a performer, choreographer and teacher training young aspirants of Bharatanatyam, at Shankarananda Kalakshetra.
    For her contribution to the field of classical art, she was conferred the Padma Shri and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Puraskar for Bharatanatyam.
    Ananda is also a sought after evocative speaker on the power of art to overcome life’s challenges, having herself survived breast cancer.

    Ananda inhabits the worlds of administration, academics, technology, the arts and advocacy; straddling them with equal ease.
