NEW DELHI:
The Bangladesh Air Force’s C-130J transport aircraft took off from Hindon Air Force base at approximately 9 AM IST on Tuesday, headed towards its next stop, according to reliable sources. Indian security agencies are closely monitoring the aircraft’s movements.
It was clarified that Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was not aboard the C-130J when it departed from the Hindon air base today. Sources reveal that seven military personnel from the Bangladesh Air Force are on board, en route to Bangladesh.
Sheikh Hasina landed in India on Monday evening after resigning from her position. It’s still uncertain whether she will remain in Delhi or relocate. Meanwhile, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar chaired an all-party meeting in Parliament on Tuesday to brief leaders about the evolving situation in Bangladesh.
During the meeting, Jaishankar outlined the recent developments in Bangladesh and the current state of affairs. He explained how Sheikh Hasina had come to India, assuring that India would accommodate her during this critical time. Sources from the meeting disclosed that the Indian government is awaiting Sheikh Hasina’s decision on her future plans.
In a post on X, Jaishankar said, “Briefed an All-Party meeting in Parliament today about the ongoing developments in Bangladesh. Appreciate the unanimous support and understanding that was extended.” He also mentioned that the Indian government is in close contact with the Bangladesh Army and will act appropriately as the situation evolves.
Sources further indicated that party leaders were informed about the 20,000 Indian nationals currently in Bangladesh, and that 8,000 of them have returned so far. Jaishankar assured the meeting that the Indian government maintains communication with its nationals and the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh is fully operational. Emphasis was placed on the protection of minorities amid the unrest.
Bangladesh is undergoing significant political turbulence following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation, prompted by widespread student-led protests against the quota system for government jobs, which have transformed into broader anti-government demonstrations.
