Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s clarion call to the nation to be a part of the Clean India Mission on 2nd Oct, 2014 has gained momentum ever since its inception. Joining hands in the campaign the Ministry of I&B had organized a nation-wide short film competition for young and aspiring film makers to showcase their creativity and inspire the citizens for a Swachh Bharat. Apart from regular curated packages, the 47th International Film Festiva
The festival received 4,346 entries, of which 20 were short listed and awarded. Honourable Minister for Information & Broadcasting M. Venkaiah Naidu presented the first prize to ‘Murga’, directed by Katyayan Shivpuri, a debutant director from Maharashtra.
‘Murga’ will be the opening film under this special section of short films. The film promotes the idea of ‘Clean India’ and has ‘Murga’ as the metaphor depicting the victims that citizens have made of themselves and of the children by not keeping the surroundings clean.
The underlying theme of Swachh Bharat comes alive in an engaging way in these films that have been directed by the film makers as young as 10 years old from various parts of the country namely, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Assam. These short films have been shot in various official listed languages with subtitles in English and aim to connect with every citizen in view of their responsibility to keep the country clean.

l section include Nanha Doot by Sudhanshu Sharma, Chembuku Moodindi (The Dying Vessel) by KVK Kumar, Sarkarmi Rati Wadho by Akshay Danavale, Manini by Praveen Vyas, Shelfee by Dr. Suyash Shinde, Tuka mhane – Says Tuka by Ashish Sudhir More, Bakari = Shauchalay by Devendra Shukla, Sneeringly lesson by Satish Kumar Verma, Mawlynnog – The cleanest village in Asia by Upakul Das.
The 47th International Film Festival of India will be held from 20th Nov to 28th Nov, 2016 in Goa.
