The Minister for health and family welfare K K Shailaja inaugurated the function at Kannur organised as part of the World Environment Day. Minister for ports Ramachandran Kadannappally presided over the function. The award was received jointly by Senior Manager Naseema Azad, Quality manager parasuraman and deputy manager Arokya Edwin of Eastern Condiments.
Eastern Condiments is one of the leading players in spice products production and exports in the country. Apart from introducing eco-friendly operations, the company has also put in place many pollution control measures in the factory. It has also taken a leadership role in organising many environment friendly programmes.
The company uses solar energy in its corporate office and in its production centre in Theni, Tamil Nadu. It has 4 windmills in Tamil Nadu and 1 in Kerala. Its units manufacturing pickles operate using bio-gas. The packing material for its new products are made with bio-degradable materials.
The company spokesmen said that the recognition that the company got for introducing such eco-friendly measures makes it more responsible and committed to the safety of environment.
