NEW DELHI:
A pioneering project to provide visibility to container movement from port to door, the DMICDC’s Logistics Data Bank (LDB), has taken another major leap with the launch of the service in the port terminals of Mundra and Hazira under Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) in Gujarat.
With the start of LDB in Mundra and Hazira, nearly 90% of the traffic along the Western Corridor a
Ajay Bhadoo, Vice-Chairman and CEO of Gujarat Maritime Board, launched the services on Monday at a ceremony in Mundra attended by senior executives and other team members of APSEZ and DMICDC.
The Logistics Data Bank provides visibility and transparency to EXIM Container Movement along the entire western corridor of India, starting from the ports and covering the entire movement through rail or road until the Inland Container Depots (ICDs) and Container Freight Stations (CFSs).
“IT penetration in the logistics sector would bring in much required efficiencies in the Indian logistics supply chain. We see huge potential in DMICDC’s LDB service to bring in more value for the entire supply chain across the GMB port terminals,” said Ajay Bhadoo.
LDB, which is operated by the DMICDC Logistics Data Services Limited (DLDS), has already covered around 2.5 million containers since its launch in July 2016 at India’s biggest port, the JNPT in Mumbai, where it is currently operational in four port terminals.
Using RFID technology, the LDB helps shippers and end users track the whereabouts of their cargo in near real time through a dedicated single window from any device.
It also collects data that can help identify bottlenecks and set up industry benchmarks for the logistics entities to streamline their operations. A collaborated effort backed by strong analytics and insights will help in reducing the logistics cost and transportation time for the entire sector and also improving the ease of doing business in India.
“We at Adani Ports always strive to be at the forefront of driving new initiatives to improve the overall customer experience at all our container terminals. This project of RFID container tagging will provide greater visibility and transparency in the container tracking system along with various analytics which will enable in addressing the bottlenecks of the container movement from origin to destination,” said Karan Adani, CEO, APSEZ.
“I would like to congratulate the DMIC, NEC and my team at APSEZ on achieving this milestone, as Mundra Ports continues setting the bench mark in handling container movement on a par with global container ports,” he added.
“The LDB can contribute immensely to revitalizing the entire logistics sector, which is essential for the country to realize its ambition of becoming a global manufacturing powerhouse. India rose 19 places to 35th in the recent World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index 2016, but we have the potential to do a lot m
ore by streamlining processes and improving efficiency across the entire supply chain; scaling the LDB service is a major step towards that goal,” said Abhishek Chaudhary, Vice President- Corporate Affairs, DMICDC and Director, DLDS.
LDB is designed to be a large scalable project and the DLDS aims to expand it to other container handling ports in the western corridor as well as the southern corridor in the near future, for a pan-India reach and maximizing the effectiveness of the project.
