Sixteenth April is a day of special significance for Indian Railways. It was on 16th April 1853 that the first train on Indian tracks began its journey from Thane to Boribunder in Mumbai. The journey which commenced at 15.35 hours, spanning only 34 Kms, certainly marked the begin
It is to commemorate this occasion, that the Indian Railways began celebrating Railway Week in April from the year 1955.
Indian Railways will celebrate 62nd Railway Week this year.Achievements and accomplishments of every Railway Unit will be reviewed during this occasion. Performance of the unit during the past year will be assessed and measures to improve it further will be adopted.
With the intention of motivating its staff, Railway units will honour those who excelled in their sphere of duty on this occasion.
A function will be held at Tagore Theatre, Vazhuthacaud from 3 pm on 18th April 2017. Dr E sreedharan, Principle Advisor, DMRC and former Member Engineering Railway Board will be the chief guest during the Function.
A Philately Exhibition by Toneesh Thomas depicting the growth and evolution of Railways in India is on display at Trivandrum Central Railway station, Plat Form No. 1. The exhibition will conclude on 19th April 2017.
